Is Your Diet Killing You?

Just because an ingredient is allowed in our food & drinks, doesn’t mean it is safe for us!

Artificial sweeteners make us think we are saving calories and eating better by not having sugar, but are we? Is it really worth the trade off of less calories if it is slowly killing us?

Artificial sweeteners are known to cause cancer, yet they are still allowed in the US. What is considered dangerous? If it doesn’t kill you immediately it must be safe right?

Did you know that Coca-Cola use to have cocaine in it? Coke use to be advertised as a “brain tonic” and that it cured many ailments. Talk about an addictive pick me up! Wasn’t safe then, but was accepted until people did their own research and demanded it change.
How do you know if you are consuming artificial sweeteners? It isn’t easy. The profit over people companies are creative. They are listed as words we don't recognize or worse, listed as brands that are known that shouldn't be trusted.

Here is a list of dangerous artificial sweeteners:
saccharin,
acesulfame,
aspartame,
neotame,
sucralose
Just a few Artificial Sweeter Brand Names:
Sweet One
Splenda
Equal
Sweet & Low

Start paying attention to the ingredients lists in the packaged foods you buy, the artificial sweeteners are in products you’d never expect.
English Muffins and many breads contain Sucralose.
Regular bottled iced tea (acesulfame K & sucralose)
Frozen honey BBQ chicken breast pieces (sucralose)
Sports Drinks
Instant Oatmeals
Orange Juice
Salad Dressings
If it says no sugar or low sugar, changes are high it has artificial sweeteners.
Adding artificial sugars to everything may be good for product sales but it is NOT good for us as consumers!
So what are better alternatives?
Stevia, a plant so it is a natural NO calorie option
Sugar Alcohols, lower calorie but still natural
Sugars found naturally in fruits
Honey,
Molasses,
Maple syrup (not pancake syrup but 100% maple syrup)
Sugar in the Raw /Turbinado Sugar
Table sugar (not great but is actually better than artificial sweeteners.)

All sugars are addictive (as are artificial sweeteners) so your best bet is as natural as possible and in moderation.
